7th Grade Honors English

Course Syllabus

Course Overview - A large part of our journey to mastering 7th grade English Common Core Standards will be done by exploring STEAM learning opportunities in a wide variety of literary selections by such noted authors as Lois Lowry, Ransom Riggs, Bethany Griffin, Cat Winters, Daniel Keyes, Rod Serling, John Boyne, Elizabeth George Speare, and Edgar Allen Poe. Students will actively engage in analyzing and critiquing a wide variety of poems, short stories, plays, novels, and screenplays from these influential writers. Students will be presenting their learning in a variety of written, artistic, and digital formats.

As writing will be heavily emphasized, students will also present their learning through informative, argumentative, and narrative pieces ranging from a single paragraph to extended multi-paragraph essays. As our classroom is collaborative in nature, students will also participate in higher level discussions designed to develop critical thinking skills on a daily basis.
