Western Center Academy Earns Prestigious AP Computer Science Female Diversity Award

Hemet Unified is proud to share that Western Center Academy (WCA) has been honored with the College Board's AP® Computer Science Female Diversity Award for the 2022-23 school year. This prestigious award recognizes the outstanding efforts of WCA in expanding young women's access to AP Computer Science classes. Out of 1,127 schools acknowledged, Western Center Academy is one of the 225 distinguished schools specifically recognized for achieving notable results in AP computer science  female diversity.

This acknowledgment speaks to Western Center Academy’s commitment to inclusivity and gender representation in the field of computer science and their commitment to being at the forefront of schools nationwide actively working towards creating a more diverse and equitable environment for students.

Research indicates that female students who take AP computer science are more likely to major in computer science in college compared with their peers. Through WCA’s leadership in diversifying computer science education, female students are being prepared for the in-demand jobs of the future and giving them the opportunity to contribute to solving some of society's most challenging problems.
